Surveillance Devices – Keyloggers

Keylogger Devices

As with any surveillance devices or countersurveillance equipment you should contact lawyers or local consult local laws before using them. The usage of recording devices such as keyloggers have different rules and restrictions depending on which state you’re in.  In most case if you are monitoring a computer that you own, you are safe.  This means that a keylogger can be used to monitor your kids, wife, husband or anyone that uses your personal computer.  Monitoring employees or business associates is a much more complicated matter and at a bare minimum, signs must be posted in any office or business where keyloggers are employed, letting them know that anything they type may be recorded.

There are several variations of keyloggers.  There are straightforward USB keyloggers which plug directly into any standard USB port.  They work in combination of software and the device itself to record all keystrokes.  Another type of device acts as a bridge, it connects between the computer and a standard USB or PS2 keyboard and logs all typing on to the device which can later be retrieved.  The last option, and the best one in our opinion is the Keylogger device which is installed inside of the keyboard itself.  This is the most expensive and requires the most work (installation) but it gets the best results most of the time.

  • A key logger has many uses. Much like a telephone recording system at a call center, the keylogger silently records all keystrokes typed, including emails, word documents, chat-room activity, IRC, instant messages, web addresses and web searching.
  • Many companies use key loggers on their company PCs to supervise employees for internet and PC usage compliance. key loggers can help keep track of activity and allow a company to act on unauthorized activity before it becomes too late.
